The Lost Coin – What’s it About?

When you submit a manuscript to an agent or publisher, they want to know about the work in as few words as possible. Sometimes you have eighteen words or less to grab their attention. Pretty good trick, eh?

But the truth is, when we consider a book, we look at the cover, read the blurb on the inside flap, and maybe read a page or two and make a decision yes or no. Given that attention span, I will try to be brief.

The Lost Coin is not written for everyone. Not to be facetious, it is for those for whom it was written. It is not about sales. It is about about getting a message out to those who are ready to receive it. It is for those who have reached a spiritual ceiling and are not satisfied. They genuinely crave “more” of God and are willing to move heaven and earth to find the missing piece.  The book blows away this “false” ceiling by revealing the truth about the mystery of Christ in us. Let me summarize the essence of the book in three points.

First, it is impossible to have “more” of God. That is clear in 1 Corinthians 6:17, But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.” I hate to sound too “New Agey,” but the fact is we are already “one” with God. We are “one” spirit, not two. You can’t get any closer than that.

Second, it is impossible to be blessed any more than we already are. That is clear in Ephesians 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, . . .” He has already given us all there is to give. You cannot crucify Christ any more.

Know-thyselfSo what is the problem? Well, it can be summed up in the Ancient Greek aphorism “Know thyself.” Because the truth is, you cannot truly know God until you truly know who you are in Christ and why you are here on planet Earth. That is what the book teaches.

Thirdly, let me say the creation of the book in itself epitomizes the story. We cry to God, “What is it you would have me to do, Lord?” We cry on our knees hoping that he will “use” us but we never seem able to hear Him. A few years ago I heard a very distinct command. The still small voice said, “Write.”

Interesting, I thought. Since when do engineers become writers? I set it aside, but it kept coming back. I asked, “Could you elaborate? Write what?” All I got was the one word command, “Write.” So a year and a half ago I started writing and voila, here it is: The Lost Coin.

What’s interesting is the theological part was written long before pen was put to paper, but the story line, that was different. That was given on a just in time basis with each chapter coming after prayer.

When I look back, I am amazed at how easy it was, how it all fit together. It was easy because just like Jesus said in John 14:10, “. . . The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.”  You see, we don’t do the works. He does. In us. As us. That is how the yoke is easy and the burden is light. It’s that simple.

I love how God speaks to us! I heard a similar voice telling me to do something months ago. The time is coming close for this journey to start. I asked myself today if I could even do this. I thought how can I be a single mom, keep my children in their activities, and start my adventure?
I kept hearing God has got this! Christ in me! I know without a doubt that I could not do anything without HIM! And, OH! How I love HIM!
I am so glad HE told you to “write”! “The Lost Coin” allowed me to see what I was missing, and I am so thankful for that!
